I wanted to contrast traditional, hand leather stitching methods, that are in some ways super functional (strength, structure giving properties), but also totally lacy and delicate looking, with odd modern materials and bold formats. With the exception of the quilted bag they are all one piece patterns. I also hoped to apply this time costly process of hand stitching, to make pieces that on all other fronts looked sort of fast, almost like cartoons. Both of the clutches for instance are shaped like what someone might draw as a symbol for “purse”. Their forms could be captured in a few strokes, realized into painstaking handmade objects. The gloves are on the same scale moving in almost the opposite direction, they look like rubber medical or kitchen gloves, disposable, but are instead hand stitched leather.
